Traditional methods of tracking construction productivity remain heavily reliant on manual data collection by ground crews, an approach that is often incomplete, error-prone, and inefficient. These limitations not only compromise the accuracy of performance insights but also consume valuable time and resources that could be better spent on critical construction tasks.

This session will explore how Visual Intelligence and AI technologies are transforming productivity monitoring on construction sites. By leveraging continuous site recording and automated video analysis, this innovative approach delivers real-time, objective, and actionable insights into site operations. The discussion will showcase how AI-driven models extract key data from video footage, such as progress tracking, activity monitoring, and equipment utilisation, without the need for manual input, resulting in greater transparency, reduced risk, and improved decision-making across the project lifecycle.

The presentation will feature insights from the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) Hive Research and Development team’s deployment of this technology on the Dublin Rd Level Crossing Removal Project, delivered in partnership with Laing O'Rourke (South Eastern Program Alliance, SEPA), Building 4.0 CRC, and the University of Melbourne Infrastructure Department. Attendees will gain a practical understanding of the benefits, challenges, and future potential of visual intelligence in reshaping construction project delivery.
