Victoria is growing and, by the 2050s, Melbourne is expected to be home to nine million people – a city the size of London today.

As our city and state prepare for the future, Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) is delivering a 90-kilometre underground rail loop connecting Melbourne’s middle suburbs, whilst simultaneously planning multiple urban precincts to meet the needs of our growing population.

The first stage of the project, SRL East – from Cheltenham to Box Hill – is scheduled to be completed by 2035. With 70,000 additional homes anticipated to be progressively delivered across the six SRL East station precincts, SRLA’s unique approach to precinct structure planning is providing an opportunity to enhance the surrounding neighbourhoods, making them even greater places to live, work, visit, study and shop.

Join SRLA’s Executive General Manager, Land, Planning, Environment and Sustainability, Dr Lissa van Camp as she discusses the ‘SRLA model’ for precinct planning – how its innovative land use planning and development controls are implementing and amending strategic land use policy, and how this approach is enabling thoughtful, coordinated growth and change that is responding to the unique attributes of neighbourhoods to inform land use and development aspirations.
