Reza Abbassi
Reza is a charted Fire Safety Engineer and leads the Fire safety Engineering team at Stantec in Melbourne. Reza has a wide array of experience and a proven track record in a variety of building topology, including, but not limited to, educational, health and aged-care, high-rise residential developments, commercial, public and industrial buildings. His strong communication skills have enabled him to liaise efficiently with both the project team and the authority.
He has conducted physical fire safety audits of health-care buildings and prepared fire safety action plans and fire safety audit reports, including Fire Engineering assessments and evaluations, as well as partial compliance of existing buildings. He has been influential in developing bespoke and cost-effective solutions for complex and challenging Fire Engineering matters.
With a backdrop of academic and lecturing experience, he has the ability to dissect complex Fire Engineering problems into multiple simpler and smaller problems and tackle them from first principles point of view. His creative problem-solving skills have culminated in his PhD qualification at the University of Melbourne in Mechanical Engineering, during which he developed a novel method for drag reduction for the first time under conditions that exist in practical flows and application.
