Michael Weekes

Michael Weekes has more than 30 years’ experience in the electrical industry and has been part of the NECA team for seven years, where he currently serves as Technical Services Manager.

Prior to joining NECA, Michael spent 12 years with Energy Safe Victoria and has also operated his own electrical contracting business, giving him a strong understanding of the technical, regulatory and practical challenges faced by electrical contractors.

Michael is a qualified electrical inspector, holding General, Medical and High Voltage classes of electrical inspection. He is also actively involved in the development of industry standards, sitting on multiple Standards Australia committees, including the committee responsible for the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules.

As part of Michael's role as industry liaison, he works closely with government, regulators and key industry stakeholders, regularly representing NECA and the interests of electrical contractors in discussions on regulation, standards, safety, compliance and emerging industry issues. Through these relationships, Michael helps ensure the experiences and perspectives of NECA members are heard by those making decisions that impact the electrical contracting industry.

His involvement also provides NECA with an important connection between industry and decision-makers, allowing him to raise issues affecting the electrical and communications industry, contribute practical industry expertise to regulatory discussions and provide members with insight into changes occurring across the sector.

Through his technical expertise, committee representation and ongoing engagement with government and regulators, Michael plays an active role in helping shape the future direction of the electrical industry while ensuring NECA members have a strong and informed voice.
