Dr Sean Sweeney is an internationally respected infrastructure leader with more than 30 years’ experience delivering major capital works programs across Australia and globally. He was appointed CEO of Inland Rail following a global search, bringing deep expertise in large-scale transport infrastructure and complex project delivery.

Sean holds a PhD in Construction Economics and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) with Honours. He has led some of the most significant infrastructure projects in Australia and internationally, including as CEO of Auckland’s $5.5 billion City Rail Link and Programme Director for Dublin’s Metrolink, a multi-billion-dollar metro program.

In Australia, he has held senior leadership roles including Executive Director at Major Projects Victoria and founding CEO of Justice Infrastructure NSW, where he led a $2.4 billion capital program. He has also held senior private sector roles, including Head of Construction at Grocon, driving national performance and growth.

Sean is recognised for his expertise in alliance delivery, public-private partnerships, and building high-performing teams. As CEO, he is focused on strengthening delivery confidence 
and ensuring Inland Rail delivers long-term value for Australia.
