Sydney Metro Appoints Partners for Hunter Street Station Precinct
Sydney Metro has appointed Lendlease, Mirvac and Coombes Property Group as development and delivery partners for the Hunter Street Station precinct, marking a major milestone for the Sydney Metro West project.
Lendlease, working with Sydney Metro, will deliver the new Hunter Street Station, a key interchange connecting Barangaroo, Wynyard, Hunter Street and Martin Place. Once open, the station is expected to support more than 15,000 passengers per hour during the morning peak, rising to 30,000 passengers per hour by 2061.
The precinct will feature two commercial towers built above the station entrances.
• The west tower, at the corner of George and Hunter Streets, will be delivered by Lendlease.
• The east tower, at O’Connell and Hunter Streets, will be jointly developed by Mirvac and Coombes Property Group.
Both towers will include retail and hospitality spaces, as well as new public areas and laneways designed to enhance connectivity and precinct activation.
Lendlease development CEO Tom Mackellar said the company will draw on its experience delivering integrated station projects such as Metro Martin Place and Victoria Cross.
“We’re looking forward to working with Sydney Metro to deliver a seamlessly connected destination that integrates workplaces, retail and public spaces, creating long‑term economic and social value for Sydney,” Mackellar said.
Mirvac CEO of development Stuart Penklis said the project will deliver a highly accessible, future‑focused workplace targeting premium sustainability outcomes, including a Platinum WELL rating.
Coombes Property Group CEO Michael Coombes added that the partnership would contribute significant commercial and public amenity, designed with Grimshaw Architects to support Sydney’s commercial core.
Construction of the station’s main works is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with the station opening in 2032 alongside the commencement of Metro West services. The over‑station towers will be completed after the station becomes operational.
