Powerhouse Parramatta has reached a major milestone, with construction now 95 percent complete and the project entering its final delivery phase. Set to become Western Sydney’s first state cultural institution, the new museum will offer world‑class exhibition areas, purpose‑built learning environments and a distinctive rooftop terrace designed to showcase wide views across Parramatta.

The rooftop space incorporates productive gardens featuring Indigenous plant species, as well as an observatory designed to support astronomy education. These features form part of a broader commitment to create a culturally rich and environmentally responsive public venue.

Across the precinct, nearly 12,000 square metres of new public domain is being delivered. This includes a new green square that links to the Parramatta River and the planting of more than 200 mature trees, establishing a significant new landscape for community use.

Powerhouse Parramatta has also achieved a major sustainability milestone, becoming Australia’s first public building to secure a 6 Star Green Star Design rating under the Green Building Council of Australia’s latest framework. The museum will run entirely on renewable electricity and has been designed to operate as a highly energy‑efficient, all‑electric building.

With key interior spaces now completed, the next stage will involve the Powerhouse team undertaking detailed fit‑out work in preparation for the museum’s opening later this year. The project represents a major investment in cultural infrastructure and is set to become a landmark destination for Western Sydney.
