Melbourne’s Newest Station Named: West Tarneit Station

Melbourne’s Newest Station Named: West Tarneit Station

In an exciting development for Melbourne's west, the newest station has been named “West Tarneit Station”, and is set to welcome passengers next year.

After careful consideration and community input on five proposed names, West Tarneit emerged as the favoured choice among locals due to its strong sense of place and easy identification.

Scheduled for a 2026 debut, West Tarneit Station will not only enhance accessibility with a pedestrian underpass but will also offer convenience with 400 car parks and a 4-bay bus interchange.

The station's vicinity will be thoughtfully designed, boasting a landscaped area complete with seating, dedicated walking and cycling paths, secure bike storage, and bike hoops.

Positioned near the intersection of Davis and Leakes roads, this new station aims to alleviate the strain on nearby Tarneit Station, a bustling hub that caters to nearly 2 million passengers annually, making it one of the busiest stations in Melbourne's rapidly expanding suburbs.

Further enhancing transport infrastructure in Melbourne's west, 2026 will witness the elimination of four dangerous and congested level crossings in Melton and Truganina, alongside the inauguration of a brand-new Melton Station.

Additionally, plans are in motion for the extensive $650 million Melton Line Upgrade, set to boost line capacity by a substantial 50%, promising significant improvements to the region's transport network.
