Gadigal Station Earns International Recognition for Outstanding Interior Design
Sydney’s Gadigal Station has achieved global recognition after receiving a major interior design award at the 2025 Prix Versailles. The international program, now in its tenth year, celebrates some of the world's most notable contemporary architectural works. Gadigal Station was selected for the Special Prize for Interior in the Passenger Station category, placing it among 24 projects granted top honours.
Designed by Foster and Partners with Cox Architecture, the station was recognised for its inventive approach, strong creative identity and thoughtful representation of local heritage. A key part of the station's character is its incorporation of Aboriginal cultural themes, expressed through artworks created by First Nations artists Rowena Welsh Jarrett, Alison Page and Dakota Dixon. These pieces are positioned prominently and speak to the cultural history of the Gadigal people.
The station also features The Underneath, a tiled artwork by Callum Morton that appears at both entrances, adding another layer of artistic detail. Since opening in August 2024, Gadigal Station has welcomed approximately 15,700 passengers each day. It also forms the foundation of two buildings above, Parkline Place and Indi Sydney, which connect directly to the station.
The award was determined by an international jury that included leaders from architecture, art, fashion and cultural fields. Their selection reinforces the station's status as a standout achievement in contemporary transport design and a significant architectural contribution to the city.
