Construction Update: Town Hall Station
)
Works for the new Town Hall Station, a vital component of the Metro Tunnel Project, are currently in progress, shaping a transformative infrastructure development in Melbourne's bustling CBD. Here's a glimpse into the latest developments at this pivotal transport hub.
Station Overview:
Town Hall Station, nestled in the heart of Melbourne's bustling CBD and part of the Metro Tunnel Project, will serve as a vital link to the city's vibrant arts district, connecting prominent landmarks like Federation Square, the Arts Centre, and Southbank. The station will boast three main entrances at City Square, Federation Square, and within the innovative Town Hall Place development on Swanston Street adjacent to Young & Jackson. From Town Hall Station, commuters can access trains heading towards the Sunbury Line via the Metro Tunnel, with the next stop at State Library Station, or towards the Cranbourne/Pakenham Line via the Metro Tunnel, leading to Anzac Station. Additionally, passengers can seamlessly transfer to other metro lines and the Gippsland Line at Flinders Street Station.
The Metro Tunnel Project Office, representing the Victorian Government, has enlisted two primary contractors for this project:
-
Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP): Leading the construction of twin tunnels and five new stations, including Town Hall Station, CYP includes John Holland, Lendlease, and Bouygues.
-
Rail Network Alliance (RNA): Tasked with building station entrances, connecting rail lines, and installing High-Capacity Signalling, RNA comprises John Holland, CPB Contractors, Alstom, AECOM, Metro Tunnel, and Metro Trains.
