Construction Recommences on Greenline Project at Birrarung Marr
)
Significant construction operations have resumed along Birrarung Marr as part of the initial phase of the City of Melbourne's Greenline initiative.
The ongoing works will involve the establishment of new boardwalks, earthworks bordering the river, and the creation of new pathways.
Upon the completion of stage one, the riverbank will showcase 450 metres of novel boardwalks, promenades, and a diverse array of native habitats. Nonetheless, there is still no definite timeline for the remaining 3.5 kilometres of the project.
Lord Mayor Cr Nick Reece is “delighted” that the works have recommenced and anticipates their conclusion by the end of the year.
“We know the community is excited to see this landmark project completed, and we look forward to delivering this new space at Birrarung Marr,” he remarked.
“When complete, this stretch of the river is going to be one of the most beautiful walks in Melbourne.”
Preliminary tasks, encompassing groundwork for landscaping and boardwalks, along with enhancements to subterranean drainage and lighting, were completed last year.
Regular updates will continue as the project advances throughout the year.
