Consortium Chosen for Eastern Freeway Upgrades Project

Consortium Chosen for Eastern Freeway Upgrades Project

The Synergy consortium has been appointed by Major Road Projects Victoria to carry out the Eastern Freeway Upgrades project between Tram and Springvale roads.

This initiative, aimed at reducing travel times and enhancing connections in Melbourne's northeast, will be executed by consortium members BMD Constructions, Arup, and CIMIC Group's CPB Contractors.

Juan Santamaría, CIMIC Group's executive chairman, remarked: "These upgrades will be critical to providing greater access across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, connecting into North East Link and the M80 Ring Road in Greensborough, reducing travel times for motorists by up to 11 minutes between Springvale Road and Hoddle Street, and upgrading pedestrian and cycling connections."

CPB Contractors' managing director, Jason Spears, said: "CPB Contractors looks forward to leveraging the experience and expertise of our people on the North East Link project to ensure the safe delivery of this stage of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades. With a focus on sustainable delivery, and utilising the latest in digital construction technology, we will continue to work closely with the Victorian Government and local communities to minimise disruption and maximise the design and social outcomes for the local people."

The project scope includes:

  • Introducing new lanes and upgrading freeway ramps

  • Enhancing green spaces, such as tree planting in Koonung Creek Linear Park

  • Implementing traffic management technology to enhance safety and traffic flow

  • Improving pedestrian and cycling links, including the construction of a new pedestrian overpass at Eram Park

Construction is anticipated to conclude in 2028.
