The Western Freeway Upgrade project aims to enhance safety, accessibility, and road capacity along the crucial stretch between Melton and Caroline Springs to meet the escalating demand for transportation. With approximately 86,000 vehicles utilising this route daily—a number projected to rise to around 113,000 by 2031—the upgrade is essential for accommodating increasing traffic volumes. Proposed enhancements encompass additional lanes, new interchanges and overpasses, improvements to existing interchanges, upgrades to pedestrian and cycling pathways, enhancements to traffic signals and street lighting, as well as the integration of public transport facilities. 9. Albert Park Pit Building
The Albert Park pit building redevelopment project aims to modernise the existing structure to cater to the evolving needs of hosting the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix while enhancing its year-round usability for the local community. Originally built in 1995, the pit building currently serves as a focal point for the annual Formula 1 event and hosts local indoor sports and community sporting clubs during the rest of the year. The upcoming redevelopment will feature new world-class garages, upgraded race control and media facilities, improved hospitality amenities, and additional premium viewing spaces to elevate the Grand Prix experience. Beyond the Formula 1 season, the revamped building will continue to function as a community sporting hub with indoor courts and clubrooms for local sports clubs. Development Victoria is reimagining Officer with the 'Olio' residential development, introducing over 200 homes by Sienna Homes in Stages 1 and 2, with plans for 245 more homes and 2 super lots in Stages 3-6. Partnering with Homes Victoria, social housing units managed by CatholicCare Housing Service and Aboriginal Housing Victoria are integrated into the project. Emphasising sustainability, Olio homes are energy-efficient. Stage 1's 93 homes are occupied, and Stage 2's 100+ homes are currently for sale, near key amenities and Olio Park. This aligns with the government's Housing Statement commitment. The final houses are expected to be completed and ready for occupancy in late 2026.
